This month we helped celebrate the start up scene in Brisbane with StartupAUS. They hosted an event called Policy Hack. This event brought together entrepreneurs, startup experts and government officials to talk about Australia’s startup legislation. Read the article The Sydney Morning Herald wrote here.
Brisbane is no longer a country town
Brisbane has for a long time been looked at as a large sleepy country town when compared with Sydney and Melbourne. However Brisbane has come a long way in the last few years. It is getting a reputation for creating startups and being at the forefront of business in Australia. Steve Baxter, investor, pioneer and media personality, believes in Brisbane’s start up scene passionately. So much so, he founded River City Labs. A place to help cultivate and grow start up businesses. River City Labs provides “resources to empower, support and connect entrepreneurs”.

Is the government listening?
Policy Hack recognises Brisbane’s growth in the start up sector which has boomed in recent years. Data compiled by Startup Muster last year showed that Brisbane is running a close second behind Sydney with the number of startup offices across the country. We can only hope that the government is not only listening but is proactive in making changes. Just like in business, it is only through understanding the struggles and pain points of the end user that progress is made. Policy Hack and events like it can only strengthen the bond between government and the startup scene.

How we helped celebrate
For Policy Hack 2018, we created some dazzling corporate cupcakes that reflected the logo, colours and vibrancy of the event. Setting up in the beautiful Old Museum venue, it was a thrill to see inside such a gorgeous building. We don’t have too many old buildings in Brisbane, being a relatively young city but this one is definitely stunning. Contrasting the branded cupcakes with cupcakes decorated with matching blue sugar they set a striking picture against the black backdrop. It was a thrill and a privilege to be a part of such a (hopefully) momentous event.
